A significant financial injection is set to transform the entrepreneurial landscape for Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans. The Defence Ministry, channeling resources through the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat), has committed RM630,000 to empower 180 small traders and micro-entrepreneurs. This funding underpins the MAF Veterans Entrepreneur Empowerment Programme (PUVET ATM) Master Class, a pilot initiative designed to elevate veteran businesses.

Bridging the Gap: From Service to Sustainable Business

The core objective of this groundbreaking program is clear: to equip veterans with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in today's competitive marketplace. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari highlighted that the master class will focus on critical areas such as boosting sales, expanding market access, enhancing productivity, and strengthening brand identity. A key emphasis will be placed on integrating digital technology, a vital component for modern business success.

This debut initiative represents a strategic convergence of efforts between the Defence Ministry and the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives. Through the collaborative work of Perhebat and the National Entrepreneurship Institute (INSKEN), the program aims to consolidate resources and expertise to provide a robust platform for veteran entrepreneurs.

Targeting Growth in Key Regions

For its initial phase, the program is specifically targeting 180 MAF veteran entrepreneurs in Melaka, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan. These participants will benefit from an INSKEN entrepreneurship master class, with an investment of RM3,500 allocated per individual. This focused approach will allow for refinement of the program before a planned nationwide rollout.

This strategic alignment with national economic frameworks, including the MADANI Economic Framework and the National Defence Industry Policy, underscores a commitment to viewing future MAF retirees and existing veterans as integral economic drivers. The training and exposure provided are meticulously designed to be relevant, competitive, and directly applicable to the broader market.

A Holistic Approach to Entrepreneurial Development

The collaborative effort extends beyond just training, aiming to comprehensively map the progress of the ministry and its associated agencies. A significant aspect of this cooperation involves expanding veterans' access to reskilling and upskilling opportunities, crucial entrepreneurship incentives, and tailored business matching programs. This holistic strategy ensures that veterans are not just trained but actively supported in their business ventures.

Furthermore, the scope of this partnership includes the development of high-impact entrepreneurship programs. These programs will be built upon the latest business modules and practices, incorporating research and development and strategic data sharing to continuously strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of MAF veterans.

The Master Class Experience: Intensive and Personalized

Participants enrolled in the PUVET ATM Master Class program can expect a comprehensive business education. The curriculum will cover essential modules such as marketing strategies, operational efficiency, digital skills, financial management, and administrative best practices. This foundational knowledge is critical for building a solid business structure.

Beyond classroom learning, the program offers intensive, one-to-one coaching from certified industry experts over a period of three months. This personalized mentorship is invaluable for addressing specific business challenges and refining strategies. Strategic monitoring of sales performance will also be a key component, providing real-time feedback and opportunities for adjustment.

Empowering a Growing Entrepreneurial Force

The need for such initiatives is underscored by the significant number of personnel transitioning out of service each year. With at least 5,000 individuals completing their service annually, and a substantial proportion, nearly 70 percent, choosing to pursue entrepreneurship, the demand for robust support systems is evident. This program directly addresses that growing segment of the veteran community.

Early indicators from Perhebat's Transformation Plan reveal the tangible impact of these efforts. The first-quarter report highlighted the creation of 718 job opportunities, with 449 veterans successfully placed in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, logistics, and services, earning salaries ranging from RM2,500 to RM5,000. This demonstrates the ministry's commitment to fostering diverse career paths for veterans.

Additionally, the PUVET ATM initiative, in collaboration with other government bodies, has already provided significant financial support. A total of RM1.6 million nationwide has been disbursed through the Rural Entrepreneurship Empowerment Support Grant (SPKLB) to 313 MAF veterans, showcasing a broad commitment to uplifting veteran entrepreneurs across various economic strata.
