Shockingly, nearly half of K-12 students report disengaging school experiences, and a mere 2% have ever participated in a hands-on career learning opportunity during their high school years.

Each NAF academy boasts a dedicated business advisory board. This crucial element ensures that instruction remains relevant and that students gain direct access to mentorship and internship opportunities. Many of these internships are structured as paid summer positions for juniors, providing a tangible taste of professional life. Furthermore, an innovative online platform offers students access to challenging client projects, further enriching their learning experiences.

The impact of NAF is being amplified by significant financial backing. A recent $5 million investment is set to propel strategic growth, focusing on deepening work-based learning, expanding career exploration avenues, and enhancing professional development for educators. Another substantial $15 million investment will double the size of the NAF network, simultaneously developing new educator tools and advancing the broader field of high school redesign.

Born from a foundational initiative in California, ConnectED and the Linked Learning Alliance have championed a comprehensive approach to education. The tenth grade features the CAPS Program, which immerses students in authentic career experiences through collaborations with local businesses. This hands-on approach provides invaluable practical learning.

Burnsville High School presents an equally compelling picture, offering four distinct career pathways. These pathways provide numerous opportunities for students to earn industry certifications and college credits, including the remarkable possibility of completing an Associate's degree while still in high school. While pathways suggest course selections, students retain flexibility, and the integration of core academic subjects remains a priority, ensuring a well-rounded education.

In Tacoma, Public Schools have strategically updated their career academy offerings at four comprehensive high schools, aligning them with a refined framework for career clusters.
